Cyprus celebrates ‘Ohi Day’ with students’ parades

Cyprus celebrates on Monday the ‘Ohi Day’, commemorating Greece’s refusal to allow Axis troops to enter the country during World War II on October 28, 1940.

In Nicosia, President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides will receive the salute of a students’ parade in front of the building of the Greek Embassy.

Religious services and student parades are held in various cities across the government-controlled areas of Cyprus.

President Christodoulides, accompanied by Minister of Education Athena Michaelidou, will attend in the morning a church service at the St. Barnabas cathedral, in Nicosia, officiated by Archbishop of Cyprus Georgios.

Later on, he will receive the salute of the students’ parade, accompanied by the Minister of Education, Ambassador of Greece Ioannis Papameletiou, and other political and military authorities.
