Nicosia:Cyprus is adamant about the President of the Republic's equal and unobstructed participation at the upcoming COP31 climate summit in Antalya, emphasizing adherence to International Law. This position was articulated by Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Minister Christos Senekis during his arrival at the Environment Council meeting in Luxembourg.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Minister Senekis also underscored that the green transition must be balanced with economic competitiveness, particularly focusing on the shipping industry.
He advocated for substantial funding and practical measures to protect biodiversity, cautioning against excessive bureaucracy.
On the topic of the Emissions Trading System (ETS) revision, Senekis affirmed Cyprus's support for an ambitious yet realistic environmental policy, highlighting the need for European solidarity and respect for the unique circumstances of each country.
