Cyprus Braces for New Year’s Weather Improvement, Met Department Predicts

NICOSIA: The third wave of severe weather that has recently impacted Cyprus is expected to gradually abate starting from New Year’s Eve, according to the Director of the Department of Meteorology, Filippos Tymvios. The latest weather front, which has brought significant disruption, is shifting towards the center of the island, promising relief for the most affected western and southwestern regions.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Tymvios indicated that while there could still be thunderstorms with hail in some inland areas and snowfall in the mountains on Monday, these conditions are unlikely to match the severity experienced in recent days. The anticipated amount of rainfall is also expected to be lower. From Tuesday onward, the weather is predicted to remain intermittently cloudy with occasional isolated showers, but the severe conditions are set to gradually diminish.

Tymvios highlighted that the first two days of the new year should see sunshine and a rise in temperatures to seasonal averages, with no significant weather phenomena forecasted. He also noted that January is typically rainy, with precipitation predicted to remain close to normal levels based on long-term forecasts. However, Tymvios cautioned that precise weather predictions are currently possible only up to Thursday, January 2.
