Nicosia: Cyprus aims to upgrade the archaeological sites and improve the experience of visitors, Deputy Minister of Culture, Dr. Vasiliki Kassianidou, said in a speech at the 9th annual conference of the Archaeology Research Unit (ARU) of the University of Cyprus.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Deputy Minister of Culture stated that construction work on the Cyprus Archaeological Museum is progressing swiftly, with the building beginning to take shape. Kassianidou emphasized that one of the primary objectives is to enhance archaeological sites and improve the visitor experience. The Department of Antiquities has developed new digital guides for several archaeological sites, including Nea Pafos, the Tombs of the Kings, Palaipafos, Kourion, and Amathus. Additionally, printed signs are expected to be introduced by summer, with plans to extend similar initiatives to Choirokitia, Kition, and Idalion, as well as other sites.
Furthermore, the Deputy Minister highlighted efforts to improve infrastructure at various locations. This year, the goal is to repair the pedestrian bridges of Chrysopolitissa to reopen the area to the public after many years. Concurrently, renovation of the visitors’ area in Kourion is also being promoted.
