Larnaca: Around 20,000 visitors are expected to arrive in Cyprus from EU member states and other countries during the upcoming Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU, President Nikos Christodoulides said on Wednesday at the opening of the postcard exhibition ‘EU journey through the lens of time’ at Larnaca Airport.
According to Cyprus News Agency, President Christodoulides congratulated Hermes Airports, the operator of Larnaca and Pafos international airports, for contributing to record-high passenger arrivals both last year and this year. He emphasized that this achievement was the result of effective collaboration between the company and the government.
The exhibition showcases 250 selected postcards from the past century, featuring scenes from Cyprus and the other 26 EU member states. The postcards were collected by the late Antonis Hadjipanayis and curated by his son, journalist Panikos Hadjipanagis. President Christodoulides described the exhibition as a unique offering for Cyprus, providing a ‘virtual journey’ to the early 20th century era when handwritten correspondence was a primary mode of communication.
Organised in collaboration with Hermes Airports, the exhibition also symbolizes a farewell to the thousands of visitors expected during Cyprus’ EU Presidency in the first half of 2026.
