Efforts to conclude two Cooperation Agreements between Greece and Cyprus in the field of transplantation was the focus of a meeting between the Minister of Health, Dr. Popi Kanari, and her Greek counterpart, Michalis Chrysochoidis, in the framework of the 1st Intergovernmental Summit between Greece and Cyprus held on Friday in Athens. According to an official announcement, the main purpose of the Cooperation Agreements is to regulate the cooperation programme between the Cyprus Transplantation Council and the National Transplant Organisation of Greece. As said during the meeting, the two sides are in the process of fine-tuning details before the signing of both agreements. Moreover, cooperation between the two countries in the field of Mental Health was also on the agenda of today’s discussions, where on the part of the Greek State, interventions are being implemented through the development of the National Network of Mental Health Services. It is noted that Greece has prepared, in cooperation with the World Health Organization, the National Action Plan for Mental Health 2021 -2030, which includes for the first time costed structures, actions and programmes grouped in Ten Intervention Pillars. In the case of Cyprus, the WHO will assist in the development of the National Mental Health Strategy, which is expected to be completed around mid-2024. Also discussed during the meeting was the issue of concluding a transnational agreement for the supply of medicines by the National Organization for Health Care Services Provision of Greece (EOPYY), to make available innovative treatments for Cypriot patients, until an advantageous price is achieved by the Cyprus Health Insurance Organisation. Finally, views were exchanged on the prospects for cooperation between the two countries in the field of public health, such as on issues concerning the way Greek and Cypriot medical and dental residents practice their specialties in the hospitals of both countries, the statement concludes.
