Cyprus and Greece Unveil New “Digital Citizen” App at Summit.

Nicosia: The “Digital Citizen” app, a collaborative development between Cyprus and Greece, will be launched on December 5. President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, made this announcement during the ‘2nd Greece-Cyprus Summit | Advancing Together’ held in Nicosia. The summit was organized by Boussias Cyprus in collaboration with Invest Cyprus, under the auspices of the Republic of Cyprus and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the app will facilitate the issuance and storage of ID cards, driving licenses, and vehicle roadworthiness certificates. President Christodoulides highlighted the synergies between Cyprus and Greece, emphasizing that the summit aims to expand cooperation in labor, environmental, research, and innovation sectors. He recalled the 10 Memoranda of Cooperation signed during the 1st Intergovernmental Conference, which are now being implemented across various sectors.

The summit also saw Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis advocating for de
eper collaboration between the two nations to create a significant business hub in Eastern Europe. He noted the strategic advantages shared by Cyprus and Greece that can attract investments and enhance their economic stability.

President Christodoulides further outlined Cyprus’s economic achievements, noting a projected growth rate of 3.8% in 2024, nearing full employment, and a reduction in public debt. These achievements have been recognized by rating agencies, with Moody’s recently upgrading Cyprus to an A3 rating. He emphasized the importance of technological and digital upgrades for economic competitiveness, acknowledging Greece’s support in these areas.

The “Digital Citizen” app represents a tangible result of the cooperation between Cyprus and Greece, promising to enhance the daily lives of citizens by streamlining access to essential documents. Prime Minister Mitsotakis echoed the sentiment, highlighting the potential for increased bilateral trade and investment, further solidifying the economic par
tnership between the two countries.
