Cyprus and Egypt Explore Enhanced Cooperation in Maritime Trade and Transport

Nicosia: The potential for strengthening cooperation in the field of maritime trade and transport and port management was the focal point of discussions between Cyprus’ Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Alexis Vafeades, and the Ambassador of Egypt to Cyprus, Mohamed Zaazou. This meeting took place at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works, as reported in a press release issued by the Ministry of Transport.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the meeting involved an exchange of views on the bilateral relations between Cyprus and Egypt, highlighting the prospects for bolstering these relations through cooperation in ports, transport, and shipping. Both parties acknowledged the strategic significance of maritime trade, shipping, and port management for their respective economies.

The discussion occurred during a pivotal period following the signing of recent memoranda of understanding (MoUs) between the Republic of Cyprus and Egypt. These agreements aim to enhance collaboration in the transport, shipping, and port sectors through joint projects and the exchange of expertise. The MoUs are intended to facilitate further development and cooperation in these vital areas.

Vafeades took the opportunity to inform the Ambassador about his Ministry’s initiatives and development plans concerning transport and infrastructure in Cyprus. In response, the Ambassador conveyed Egypt’s commitment to further reinforcing cooperation in the sectors of transport, shipping, and ports.
