Cyprus and China Formalize Sports Collaboration with New MoU

Nicosia: Cyprus and China signed a Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation in the field of sports. The MoU was formalized at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, with Minister Athena Michaelidou representing the Republic of Cyprus, and Deputy Minister of the General Administration of Sports, Li Jing, representing the People’s Republic of China.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Michaelidou emphasized that the event demonstrates the commitment of Cyprus and China to enhance their cooperation in sports. She highlighted that the Memorandum aims to elevate the sporting relations between the two nations and focuses on various areas of mutual interest.

The agreement seeks to bolster collaboration through activities such as organizing sports events, facilitating the participation of national sports teams and athletes in events hosted by both countries, and encouraging the exchange of visits by athletes, sports delegations, and experts. Additionally, it includes joint participation in seminars and conferences concerning management methods in sports, and the exchange of information on critical issues like anti-doping control, sport infrastructure, and sport-related information technology. The MoU also opens avenues for cooperation in specific sports mutually agreed upon by the relevant authorities of both countries.

Michaelidou expressed confidence that the Memorandum will enhance cooperation and create numerous opportunities in the field of sports for both Cyprus and China.
