Nicosia: Bahrain is a stable and reliable partner and supports Cyprus on many issues, Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Alexis Vafeades said on Sunday, following a meeting at the Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) in Larnaca with Bahrain’s Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, Dr. Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa. He added that the Bahraini Minister’s visit to the island presents an opportunity to explore new areas of cooperation, particularly in the operation of ports and airports.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Dr. Al Khalifa stated that Cyprus has always been a reliable partner, noting that the goal of the meeting was to enhance the bilateral partnership between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Republic of Cyprus in the fields of transportation, shipping, and telecommunications. Speaking after the meeting, Vafeades highlighted the opportunity to discuss expanding the scope of cooperation, emphasizing the stable and reliable nature of Bahrain as a partner.
Vafeades elaborated on the potential for collaboration, particularly in the operation and management of ports and airports, and expressed optimism about the friendly relations between the two countries. He noted that these collaborations could improve the quality of life for citizens by adding value through cooperation. While no agreements have been signed yet, Vafeades mentioned the intention to explore ways to strengthen bilateral ties.
Highlighting the role of the Joint Rescue Coordination Center, Vafeades underscored Cyprus’s commitment to saving lives and providing assistance, which other countries value and wish to emulate. Dr. Al Khalifa described the meeting as very productive, with a focus on enhancing cooperation in transport, shipping, and telecommunications.
Dr. Al Khalifa also expressed eagerness to enhance bilateral relations in search and rescue operations, praising the expertise and practices observed at the JRCC. He commended Cyprus for supporting the Palestinian people through the establishment of a humanitarian corridor and affirmed Bahrain’s faith in Cyprus’s dedication to regional and international cooperation.
Following the meeting, the Bahraini Minister was briefed by the JRCC Commander and staff on the Center’s operations and the training program for Bahraini officers at the facility.
