Cyprus’ accession to the EU marked ‘a new era’ for the country, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Monday, on the occasion of the May 1, 2004 anniversary, when the country joined the bloc. In a tweet, the Ministry notes that, on May 1, 2004, Cyprus joined the EU, marking ‘a new era for our country’. ‘Together with our partners, we are heading on a common path, carving out a common future based on European principles and values’, it said. The Ministry also posted a video from the first time the flag of the Republic of Cyprus was raised in the European Parliament.
