Nicosia: Cyprus citizens who found themselves stranded in the UAE following the US-Israel attacks on Iran and the escalation of crisis in the region, are set to return home with the first repatriation flight on Wednesday. The first flight is set to land early in the afternoon, barring any unforeseen circumstances.
According to Cyprus News Agency, yesterday, 12 people returned on commercial flights. Some were in Israel and Jordan and traveled by road to Cairo. Cypriots who were in Bahrain in transit from other countries, including Asian ones, are also returning today, as stated by Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Theodoros Gotsis.
He added that a total of 756 people are in the UAE but it is not known whether all of them will return on repatriation flights. Of the 756 people, there are also permanent residents in the UAE and communication is underway with all the Cyprus nationals for better coordination and planning.
