Nicosia: Cypriots in Israel are safe, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Theodoros Gotsis, told CNA, noting that the situation was manageable.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Gotsis addressed concerns regarding Cypriot citizens affected by flight cancellations in Israel and nearby regions. He stated that 48 individuals have requested assistance to return to Cyprus. This group includes 11 patients receiving medical treatment in Israel along with 16 accompanying persons, and 21 individuals who traveled for work or other reasons. Among these, two have crossed into Egypt and are scheduled to return via a flight from Cairo.
Additionally, four Cypriots who reside permanently in Israel expressed a desire to be repatriated. Gotsis assured that everyone is maintaining contact with consular authorities at the Cypriot embassy in Tel Aviv, emphasizing that the situation remains manageable. He also mentioned that a patient, whose treatment concluded, returned to Cyprus via air ambulance today.
Gotsis disclosed that there are approximately 330 Cypriots and individuals of Cypriot origin permanently residing in Israel, and 90 in the West Bank. He reassured that all are currently safe and that the Ministry is closely monitoring the situation. There is anticipation for the resumption of commercial flights to facilitate the return of those wishing to come back to Cyprus.
