Nicosia: For the fifth year in a row, UNFICYP, in collaboration with the British Council’s Youth Connect programme, is launching the UN Youth Champions for Environment and Peace initiative. This program aims to bring together young individuals from various communities in Cyprus to collaborate on addressing environmental issues.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the program has successfully graduated over 100 Youth Champions and impacted around 800 young people island-wide. These alumni have emerged as prominent advocates for peace and environmental sustainability in Cyprus.
Participants of the initiative will engage in a series of immersive workshops scheduled for 5, 6, 7, and 13 September 2025, at the Ledra Palace Hotel located in the UN Buffer Zone in Nicosia. These workshops will feature insights from UN experts, climate activists, and peacebuilders, allowing participants to explore environmental solutions through collaboration, form lasting partnerships, and execute team-based environmental projects. Participants will also receive grants and mentorship to bring their initiatives to fruition by January 2026.
Eligible applicants must be aged 18-30, residing in Cyprus, and possess a strong interest in environmental and peace issues. They must be able to commit to all workshops, work in intercommunal teams, and have a proficient command of English. Applicants are not required to have prior experience, and participation is free, with certificates awarded upon completion.
Applications are open until Monday, 21 July 2025, via the provided online form. Successful candidates will be informed by 24 July 2025. For inquiries, interested parties can contact [email protected].
