Nicosia: Cypriot shooter Andreas Pontikis won the gold medal in the men's skeet solo event at the European U23 Shooting Championships in Wroclaw, Poland, on Wednesday, August 5.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Pontikis had an impressive performance throughout the competition, progressing through the qualifying rounds before defeating Britain's Worrall 7-3 in the quarter-finals to book his place in the semi-finals.
In the semi-final, the Cypriot shooter faced Bulgaria's Ilia Iliev, whom he also defeated 7-3 to reach the gold medal match.
Pontikis dominated the final against Slovakia's Martin Horvath, winning 6-0 to claim the European U23 title. Horvath took the silver medal.
Lithuania's Tomas Vaitekunas and Bulgaria's Ilia Iliev shared the bronze medals.
