Cypriot Paralympic Champion Advances to 50m Final at World Aquatics Championships

Nicosia: Cypriot Paralympic champion, Carolina Pelendritou, has advanced to the 50m freestyle S11 final at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore. The final will take place on Sunday at 14:42 (Cyprus time).

According to Cyprus News Agency, in the qualifying round that took place very early on Sunday morning, the 39-year-old swimmer was second with a time of 30.84, just outside her best performance of the year (30.63). It was a very close race with the winner Bruinsma finishing in 30.42 and the 8th girl qualifying under 32 seconds. Ten athletes participated in the race, since the pool has ten lanes.

This event marks the 14th World Championships in Pelendritou’s career, during which she has won 13 medals, including gold in the 50m freestyle in 2022 and bronze in 2023. In 2021, she secured gold in the 50m freestyle at the Paralympic Games “Tokyo 2020” and last year won silver in “Paris 2024”.
