Cypriot Entities Secure 15 Million Euro Funding from European Defence Fund

Nicosia: Thirteen Cypriot entities have been selected to participate in the new projects of the European Defence Fund programme, securing a total funding of approximately 15 million euro from the European Commission, as announced by the Ministry of Defence on Saturday.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the European Commission revealed the results of the evaluation of proposals submitted under the European Defence Fund (EDF) 2024 work programme on 30 April 2024. The Fund will finance 62 project proposals with a total budget exceeding 900 million euro. The Ministry of Defence highlighted the significant achievement of Cypriot small and medium-sized enterprises and research organisations in participating in 19 out of the 62 project proposals.

In total, 13 different Cypriot entities have successfully secured a place in the new EDF2024 projects, with the European Commission providing them with approximately 15 million euro in funding. Additionally, the Ministry of Defence will allocate around one million euro from its budget to co-finance the successful development proposals.

The Ministry of Defence extended its congratulations to the businesses and institutions for their achievements, reaffirming its commitment to supporting the domestic research and innovation ecosystem. The Ministry emphasized its ongoing support for further development and evolution in the fields of research and innovation.
