Nicosia:Chief Scientist Demetris Skourides and Director General Theodoros Loukaidis of the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF) participated in the 23rd Science and Technology in Society Forum, organized by the Japanese Government.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the forum attracted representatives from governments, funding agencies, universities, researchers, and businesses. Skourides and Loukaidis were involved in a roundtable with R and I funding agencies, focusing on developing mechanisms for research and impact in the age of artificial intelligence.
The Cypriot delegation also held meetings with several international figures, including the Director General of the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission, the President of the Austrian Science Foundation, and officials from other major research and funding bodies worldwide.
Discussions covered a range of topics such as the development of research talent, financial institutions' transformation, regenerative medicine, and AI's role in supporting individuals with disabilities. Additionally, Skourides and Loukaidis attended a lecture by the 2025 Nobel Prize laureates in Chemistry, Kitagawa and Yaghi, on molecular architecture, and a speech by Michael Kratsios, the White House Director for Science and Technology Policy.
