Nicosia: The Cyprus Marine Environment Protection Association (CYMEPA) announced on Tuesday its approval for membership in INTERCARGO (International Association of Dry Cargo Shipowners) as an Associate (Reciprocal) Member. This development marks a significant milestone for CYMEPA in its efforts to enhance its international collaboration and influence within the maritime industry. According to Cyprus News Agency, the decision was officially communicated by the Secretary General of INTERCARGO, Kostas G. Gkonis. INTERCARGO, established in 1980 and headquartered in London, serves as the globally recognized institutional representative of dry bulk shipowners. Currently, INTERCARGO represents over 250 shipping companies from appro ximately 30 countries, managing a significant share of the global dry bulk fleet. The association plays a crucial role in promoting maritime safety, environmental protection, and sustainable international shipping practices, while ensuring compliance with the standards set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and other international entities. CYMEPA's membership in INTERCARGO is seen as a testament to its credibility and long-standing contributions to marine environmental protection.
