Nicosia: The Cyprus Financial Literacy and Education Committee (CyFLEC) announced the launch of moneypedia.cy, a groundbreaking digital portal aimed at enhancing financial literacy across the country. This portal is hailed as a cornerstone of the National Strategy for Financial Literacy and Financial Education.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the newly launched platform stands as the first of its kind in Cyprus, providing a comprehensive digital resource designed to offer reliable and evidence-based financial information. The goal is to empower citizens to make informed financial decisions at various stages of their lives.
The committee emphasized the importance of well-informed financial decisions in areas such as budgeting, saving, borrowing, investing, insurance, and retirement planning. The portal aims to serve as a reliable guide for a diverse audience, including students, young adults, families, employees, entrepreneurs, and pensioners, regardless of their financial literacy levels.
Moneypedia.cy is designed with a user-friendly interface, offering accessible explanations of essential financial concepts, practical personal finance guidance, financial calculators, decision-support tools, educational videos, interactive quizzes, and content tailored to different age groups and life stages. Moreover, it includes practical guides and a wealth of educational resources.
CyFLEC explained that the name 'moneypedia' was chosen through a participatory evaluation process involving students, university students, educators, academics, and committee members. The name was deemed concise, engaging, and reflective of the portal's purpose as a reliable source of financial knowledge and education.
The creation of the platform was financially supported by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Structural Reform Support (DG REFORM), in collaboration with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The Central Bank of Cyprus secured the funding through the Ministry of Finance, which also supported the execution of three initiatives under the National Strategy for Financial Literacy and Financial Education.
The development of the portal was overseen by CyFLEC's Coordination and Management Team, with contributions from the committee's board members and academic partners enriching the portal's content.
CyFLEC emphasized that moneypedia.cy is envisioned as a dynamic platform that will be regularly updated with new tools, educational material, announcements, and practical guides. The aim is to establish it as the primary reference point for financial literacy in Cyprus.
In an official statement, CyFLEC Chair and Governor of the Central Bank of Cyprus, Christodoulos Patsalides, remarked that the portal's launch marked "an important step towards strengthening financial education in our country and a meaningful investment in the future of our citizens."
"Our aim is to provide people with the knowledge and tools they need to make informed financial decisions and to foster a society in which individuals manage their finances with confidence and responsibility," Patsalides added.
