Nicosia: A delegation from the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT), led by Rector Professor Panayiotis Zaphiris, has recently completed a series of visits to prominent Chinese universities, including Hangzhou Dianzi University (HDU), Zhejiang University (ZJU), and China Jiliang University (CJLU). The primary aim of these visits was to explore and establish opportunities for academic collaboration, student exchange programs, and joint research initiatives, reflecting CUT’s strategic focus on enhancing its academic partnerships in Asia.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the discussions during these visits led to the renewal of Memoranda of Understanding with HDU and CJLU, signifying a strengthened commitment to ongoing collaborations. At Hangzhou Dianzi University, the renewed Memorandum of Understanding emphasizes the continuation of a joint master’s program in Electronic Engineering, which has garnered significant interest from Chinese students. The collaboration also includes the presence of the Confucius
Institute, aimed at promoting Chinese language and culture, thereby fostering intercultural awareness. Dr. Anna Nicolaou, the Director of the Confucius Institute at CUT, engaged with HDU students who expressed interest in visiting Cyprus for a winter school in February 2025.
The partnership with China Jiliang University was further solidified with a renewed Memorandum of Understanding, highlighting the university’s rich history in metrology. The CUT delegation was given a tour of CJLU’s campus and its renowned metrology museum, marking another step in their collaborative journey.
Additionally, the CUT delegation participated in the World Chinese Language Conference held in Beijing. The conference, attended by over 2,000 delegates from more than 160 countries, celebrated the 20th anniversary of Confucius Institutes worldwide and focused on themes such as ‘Interconnection, Integration, Inheritance, Innovation.’ This participation underscores CUT’s commitment to global engagement and the promotion of intercult
ural understanding.
The visit represents a significant milestone in CUT’s efforts to forge global connections and enhance the educational experience for its students. The university plans to build on these successful engagements by organizing reciprocal visits and collaborative events in the near future.
