Nicosia: The Department of Contemporary Culture of the Deputy Ministry of Culture has announced the launch of the 'Cultural Activities Support Scheme for Religious Groups' set for 2026. This initiative focuses on financially supporting cultural activities organized by Cyprus' Armenian, Latin, and Maronite Religious Groups to preserve and promote their distinct cultural identities.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the scheme is designed to encourage cultural creation across various fields such as literature, music, theatre, cinema, visual arts, folk culture, and dance. Klea Papaellina, the Deputy Minister of Culture, emphasized the importance of this scheme by stating that each community contributes uniquely to Cyprus' cultural identity. She highlighted that the scheme will support the creative expression of these religious groups, allowing their traditions and contemporary voices to enhance the shared cultural landscape, fostering dialogue, understanding, and cohesion.
The scheme will provide funding for cultural activities conducted by the Offices of the Representatives of the three Religious Groups, as well as by organizations originating from these groups. It aims to showcase Cyprus' cultural identity by promoting cultural pluralism and acting as a catalyst for strengthening social cohesion.
Applications for the scheme will be accepted exclusively through the digital platform grants4arts.cy, starting from September 1, 2026. A three-member Evaluation Committee will review and assess the applications. The deadline for submissions is set for September 27, 2026.
