Deputy Minister of Culture Dr Vassiliki Kassianidou held a meeting on Wednesday with Director General of the Directorate General for Regional Policy and Urban Development (DG REGIO) of the European Commission, Themis Christophidou with whom she discussed about European programs that will support culture, but also about issues related to cultural development.
According to an official press release, during the meeting, the Deputy Minister of Culture expressed her will to promote the inclusion of the cultural sector in the National Strategic Plan, in order to use funds that the Republic of Cyprus receives from the Cohesion Fund of the EU.
In addition, the Deputy Minister underlined that investing in culture will have long-term positive effects on both society and the economy.
The EU official referred to the financial tools that DG REGIO is managing, that can support cultural projects and actions with European funds.
They exchanged views on the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU and on the issues tha
t the Deputy Ministry of Culture could promote.
