Crews Battle Wildfires in Limassol and Paphos Districts

Limassol: Land and air firefighting crews are engaged in efforts to contain wildfires in the mountainous areas of Limassol and the Paphos district.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the wildfires in the Limassol mountainous areas have impacted the villages of Vasa, Omodos, Ayia Mavri, and Mallia, with the blaze extending towards Vouni. Authorities have evacuated Malia and Vasa and are working on evacuating the villages of Vouni and Potamiou. The community leader of Vasa reported that several houses, including a hotel unit, have been destroyed by the fires.

In the Paphos district, a fire that began on Thursday afternoon in a landfill in Ayia Marinouda area has spread to the nearby communities of Ayia Varvara, Episkopi, and Holetria. The fire in Holetria has resulted in power outages.

The Civil Defence has ordered the immediate evacuation of camping sites in Platres, Pera Pedi, Ayia Mavri, and picnic sites in the surrounding areas. Additionally, the state health services organisation has stated that all public hospitals’ accident and emergency departments are on standby, along with the Burns Unit at Nicosia general hospital.
