Nicosia: President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, announced that an extraordinary meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives (COREPER) will take place on Sunday afternoon, in Brussels, following US President Trump's announcements on new tariffs over certain European countries. Speaking to journalists at Episkopeio, a village in the Nicosia District, where he addressed a memorial service, President Christodoulides said that 'in light of yesterday's announcements by the US President regarding tariffs, we have called an extraordinary meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives today at 5 p.m. Brussels time".
According to Cyprus News Agency, President Christodoulides added that "I do not rule out that in the coming days, even within the next 24 hours, there may also be a European Council meeting, possibly via teleconference, to discuss the issue and to agree on a common approach and a common response' to address the issue.
