Controlled 30-Minute Rotational Power Cuts Implemented in Response to High Demand

Nicosia: The Cyprus Transmission System Operator implemented controlled rotational power cuts early on Wednesday evening as a measure to balance electricity production with heightened demand.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the decision for the power cuts was prompted by extremely high temperatures that led to increased electricity demand from consumers, coupled with a limited capacity for electricity generation. The planned power cuts aim to manage the situation efficiently, ensuring that the maximum continuous period of cuts does not exceed thirty minutes for each consumer group, as stated by the Operator.

Earlier in the afternoon, Christina Papadopoulou from the EAC press office informed CNA that despite several power plants being out of operation, the electricity demand is partially met by the increased output from unit 3 at the Vasiliko power station. This unit is currently producing an additional 30MW to help alleviate the demand pressures.
