Nicosia: The Cyprus Football Association (CFA) says that the necessary conditions are no longer in place for FIFA President Gianni Infantino to continue carrying out his duties. The CFA says it remains committed to UEFA's common position, while stressing that the necessary relationship of trust with FIFA's leadership has been irreparably damaged.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the CFA actively participates in the institutional processes of UEFA, as it did during the extraordinary meeting held on 30 July 2026. During this meeting, UEFA's 55 members, national associations, reached a unanimous decision rejecting FIFA's proposal to sell rights to its major competitions to external investors.
The CFA remains firmly aligned with UEFA's common position and is also adopting the new joint position unanimously agreed in Monaco on Thursday, 27 August, by representatives of national associations on UEFA's Executive Committee, European representatives on the FIFA Council, and presidents of UEFA member national associations.
The CFA statement highlighted that given the current circumstances, the necessary conditions are no longer in place for the FIFA President to continue carrying out his duties. The relationship of trust and collective cooperation between FIFA's leadership, the Confederations, the national associations, and the FIFA Council has been irreparably damaged.
The CFA concluded by stating that the decisions to be taken in the coming period are critical and must serve exclusively the interests and protection of football, while safeguarding its unity, credibility, and institutional character.
