The condition of migrant children who are being treated at hospitals in Cyprus after they were found unconscious in a boat off Cape Greco with other people, is considered very serious, the health services have told CNA.

Already one child succumbed suddenly from cardiac arrest. Another two are hospitalised in the Intensive Care Unit at Makarios Hospital and two more in Famagusta General Hospital. Two adults are also hospitalised for fractures.

State Health Services Organisation (SHSO) spokesperson, Charalambos Charilaou told CNA that the migrant childrens’ condition “is very serious” and that “doctors are doing everything they can”.

The children were found unconscious in the early hours of Wednesday morning in a boat off Cape Greco along with 55 other people.

“The two children in Makarios are in a very serious, critical condition, they are being monitored by doctors and we hope they will make it,” Charilaou said.

Two other children are being treated at the Pediatric Department of Famagusta General Hospita
l and two other adults with fractures at Larnaca General Hospital.

“All the children are in a serious situation. They went through bad conditions until they arrived in Cyprus so we can’t say anything more. The condition of all the children is considered very serious,” concluded the SHSO spokesperson.
