Complaints received by Commissioner for Personal Data Protection double in presidential elections runoff

The complaints received by the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection, Irene Loizidou Nikolaidou, in the second round of the presidential elections doubled, with the total number of complaints submitted for both rounds reaching 77.

In a press release, Nikolaidou noted that compliance checks were carried out in 80 polling stations across Cyprus during last Sunday’s repeat election.

She said “52 complaints relating to the second round of elections were added to the 25 complaints that had been submitted for the first round of elections,” and most of the complaints concern telephone calls and/or unwanted promotional messages such as sms.

Nikolaidou said all complaints will be thoroughly investigated and the results announced.
