Nicosia: Cypriot judoka Petros Christodoulides won the bronze medal in the -66kg judo category on Friday, at the 23rd Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Cypriot judoka, who ranks 26th in the world, advanced to the semi-finals following two victories. In an all-Cypriot semi-final clash, he was defeated by Georgios Balarjishvili but secured the bronze medal by overcoming the Australian judoka Middleton, who is ranked 30th globally.
Sofia Asvesta achieved a commendable result by reaching the final in the 52kg judo category. In the final bout, she was narrowly defeated on points by the Canadian competitor Beaton, with a score of 1-0, thus earning the silver medal for Cyprus.
Additionally, Filippa Fotopoulou will represent Cyprus in the long jump final scheduled for Saturday. She qualified by achieving the seventh-best performance with a jump measuring 6.56 meters.
