The European Commission announced on Monday that a scholarship has been offered to a Turkish Cypriot postgraduate student to study at the College of Europe.
The scholarship programme which was announced in November 2021 under the EU Scholarship Programme for the Turkish Cypriot community, aims to help Turkish Cypriots study at the College of Europe u, which offers specialised programmes on European studies. The scholarship is offered in the context of the EU’s programmes to facilitate the reunification process.
In a statement, the Commission encourages Turkish Cypriots to explore this opportunity in the future including by taking part in the specific EU financed preparation programme which will be offered for Turkish Cypriots this autumn in order to increase the number of eligible candidates as much as possible.
The College of Europe is known for preparing professionals to work in the integration of their own countries to the EU, the press release notes, expressing the hope that Turkish Cypriots studying at the institution will be paving the way towards the reunification of Cyprus and full integration in the EU, adding that “that is more important than ever in the current Cyprus context”.
