Limassol: A total of 160 individuals have been housed through the Civil Defence, spokesperson tells CNA. The number of individuals who have approached the Civil Defence for accommodation and have been transferred to houses, hotel rooms, apartments, or hosting centers has reached 160, the deputy Spokesperson of the service, Chara Lazarou, told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA).
According to Cyprus News Agency, these accommodations have been voluntarily provided for those affected by the fires in the Limassol district. Lazarou clarified that individuals needing assistance can apply by calling 357-25-811024 from morning until 2300.
Lazarou also noted that the Civil Defence has volunteers from the Search and Rescue Department assisting the Fire Service and the Forestry Department in managing re-ignitions and hotspots. Furthermore, the Civil Defence is hosting groups from abroad who have come to offer help.
Personnel from the Civil Defence, both permanent staff and volunteers, are actively present at the coordination center to manage the distribution of water, food, and other necessities. This is done in collaboration with the National Guard, Red Cross, and community leaders for the affected individuals.
Additionally, medical and pharmaceutical needs are being met through cooperation with the Water Development Department. Lazarou mentioned that a significant amount of humanitarian aid has already been collected and urged people wishing to assist to contribute financially to an account opened by the Treasury Department.
