The Ministry of the Interior said on Thursday that it is following the case regarding the arrest of persons that are suspects for money laundering in Singapore, including two with a Cypriot citizenship, adding that if the conditions set by the legislation are met, then it will proceed with all the appropriate actions and revoke their citizenship. The press release was issued following press reports regarding the arrest of persons connected to an international money laundering ring in Singapore. The Ministry said in the press release that it is aware that two persons who hold Cypriot citizenship are among those arrested as suspects. It points out that based on the legislation regarding the deprivation of the Cypriot citizenship, the citizenship may be revoked if and when the person holding Cypriot citizenship is sentenced to prison for a serious criminal offence. The Ministry notes that it will be following the matter and if there is any information that meets the preconditions set by the legislation for the deprivation of the Cypriot citizenship, it will immediately proceed with all the appropriate actions, provided by the law, to revoke their citizenship. Moreover, it says that so far, the Cypriot government has not received any request from the Singaporean authorities for assistance in the context of the ongoing investigation. Concluding, the Ministry notes that if it receives such a request, it will immediately provide any information or other assistance required.
