Certain EU partners will deliver “clear and unambiguous” message to Turkey, says FM from Lithuania

Cyprus Foreign Affairs Minister Nikos Christodoulides has expressed his conviction that the country’s European partners will deliver a “clear and unambiguous” message to Turkey at the upcoming European Council in June, during which the prospect of a positive agenda in the EU’s relations with Turkey will be discussed.

Christodoulides, who was speaking to the press following deliberations he had with his Lithuanian counterpart Gabrielius Landsbergis in Vilnius, on Thursday, said discussions were “very open and productive.”

My visit to Vilnius, he noted, “comes a week after the informal meeting on Cyprus held in Geneva under the auspices of the UN Secretary General.

France is fully committed to the UN solution framework, its Ambassador says

France is fully committed to the UN solution framework and fully supports the UNSG`s continued efforts regarding Cyprus, its Ambassador Salina Grenet-Catalano said on Tuesday after a meeting she had with Cyprus Foreign Minister, Nikos Christodoulides.

In a post on Twitter, Grenet-Catalano thanked Christodoulides for his in depth debrief of the Geneva 5+1 informal meeting on Cyprus that took place last week.

She noted that France is fully committed to the UN solution framework and fully supports the UNSG`s continued efforts regarding Cyprus.

Cyprus President to inform EU leaders about Geneva meeting outcome at informal Summit in Porto

Cyprus President, Nicos Anastasiades, will inform the EU heads of state or government who will participate in the informal European Council meeting, on May 8 in Porto, about the results of the 5+1 informal meeting on Cyprus that took place on April 27-29 in Geneva, Government Spokesperson, Kyriacos Koushos has told CNA.

Koushos noted that even though the Council`s meeting is informal and the issue is not expected to be discussed, President Anastasiades will inform EU partners about the results of the Geneva informal meeting, asking for the continuation of the EU and its member states` support to efforts for a Cyprus settlement on the basis of UN resolutions and EU principles and values.

EU leaders will meet in Porto on 8 May to discuss social issues, including those related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Russia sticks to a bizonal, bicommunal federal solution in Cyprus, its Permanent Mission to the UN says

Russia has said that it has remarked in the past about reforming the system of guarantors in Cyprus, however it sticks to the internationally acknowledged basis for a bizonal, bicommunal federal solution in Cyprus.

First Deputy Permanent Representative Dmitry Polyanskiy, in a press briefing on Thursday at the UN headquarters, was invited to answer what would Russia like to see as a fair and equitable resolution of the Cyprus problem and if it believes that Turkey’s thousands of occupation troops still stationed in northern Cyprus violate international law.

Cyprus is the hot issue nowadays, he remarked and referred to the conference in Geneva with the Secretary-General participating.

Cyprus President extends condolences to Israel for the tragedy at Mount Meron

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades has extended condolences to Israel for the tragedy at Mount Meron where 44 people were crushed to death, and over 150 were injured in stampede at mass Lag B’Omer event.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of #Israel and with the families of those killed or injured following the tragedy at #MountMeron”, the President wrote on his twitter account.

Cypriot FM conveys condolences to his Israeli counterpart for pilgrimage stampede

Cyprus’ Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides in a communication with his Israeli counterpart, has expressed his sincere condolences to families of victims killed at the Lag B`Omer celebration which takes place annually at the foot of Mount Meron.

In a Twitter message, the minister said “our thoughts go out to the people of #Israel following the devastating stampede at the #LagBOmer festival that resulted in tragic loss of lives”.

He said he conveyed sincere #condolences to families of victims & wishes for quick recovery to all injured in communication with @Gabi_Ashkenazi.
