Calm Seas Expected Around Cyprus with Weak High Pressure

Nicosia: The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has issued a forecast for the sea area around Cyprus, covering an 8-kilometer range seawards. The forecast, valid from 0600 on January 18, 2025, to 0600 on January 19, 2025, indicates that a weak high-pressure system is currently affecting the area, resulting in mainly fine weather. Visibility is reported to be good, and the sea surface temperature is 19°C. There are no warnings issued for the period.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the forecast details wind and sea conditions for different coastal areas. On the west coast, morning winds are expected to shift from northwest to northeast at a Beaufort scale of 3, later becoming northwest with smooth to slight sea conditions. Afternoon winds may increase to a scale of 4, occasionally reaching 4 to 5, with slight sea conditions. By night, winds will transition from northwest to north and then northeast to east at a scale of 3, with seas remaining slight, gradually becoming smooth to slight.

For the south coast, wi
nds will start from the northwest at a scale of 3, shifting later to southwest to northwest with smooth to slight seas. Afternoon conditions will see southwest to west winds at a scale of 3 to 4, maintaining smooth to slight seas. At night, winds will vary from northwest to north, occasionally locally reaching 3 to 4, with sea conditions persisting as smooth to slight.

The east coast will experience west to northwest winds at a Beaufort scale of 3 in the morning, occasionally reaching 3 to 4 locally, and seas will remain smooth to slight. In the afternoon, winds will increase to 3 to 4, locally reaching 4, with similar sea conditions. Nighttime will see northwest to north winds transitioning to west to northwest at a scale of 3, with seas that are slight, gradually becoming smooth to slight.

On the north coast, morning conditions will feature variable winds at a scale of 3, gradually shifting to west to northwest at 3 to 4, with smooth to slight seas. During the afternoon, northwest winds at a scale of 4, o
ccasionally reaching 4 to 5 locally, will lead to slight seas. At night, southeast winds at a scale of 3, with local variations initially from the northwest, will result in smooth to slight seas, locally slight at first.
