LIMASSOL: Volunteers are the backbone of every major sporting event, and the FIBA EuroBasket 2025, set to take place next summer in Cyprus, is no exception. The Cyprus Basketball Federation (CBF) and the Local Organizing Committee have announced the first call for public expressions of interest to work as volunteers for the event, which will be held from August 28 to September 4, 2025, in Limassol.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the call is open to anyone over 16 years old who wishes to be part of the sports history of Cyprus by experiencing the event first-hand, while also gaining valuable personal experiences. Approximately four hundred volunteers are required for the successful organization of FIBA EuroBasket 2025. These volunteers will be assigned various tasks based on their capabilities, knowledge, and experience, as well as their educational background.
Fluency in Greek and English is a requirement for volunteers, and previous experience in sporting events is considered an advantage. All volunteers must be available for a ten-day period in late August and early September. Selected volunteers will receive their shifts and task assignments in advance.
“Volunteers are always the first faces that visitors meet, and the same will occur on our island next summer when thousands of visitors, including teams, organizers, journalists, sponsors, and fans, will travel to Cyprus,” the press release states. Volunteers will be stationed at various locations, including the official airport, hotels, and the ‘Spyros Kyprianou’ arena, where they will handle duties such as welcoming fans, maintaining the information desk, providing media support, assisting the medical and anti-doping teams, and distributing sports and other equipment to teams.
Interested individuals are invited to fill out an online application, registering their personal information and detailing their knowledge and experience for appropriate allocation. All volunteers will receive official FIBA EuroBasket 2025 clothing and equipment, along with a certificate of participation. Transportation will be provided to and from official event venues, starting from the Tsirion stadium, for those who require it.
Registration can be completed online at the provided link, and the platform will remain open until February 28, 2025. Volunteer training is scheduled to begin in May 2025.
