Azerbaijan issues travel warnings to citizens for Israel, Palestine

General

ISTANBUL: Azerbaijan on Monday issued travel warnings to its citizens, advising them to not travel to Israel and Palestine unless it is necessary.

Individual statements released by the Foreign Ministry said it issued the warnings ‘considering the rapidly changing security situation’ in the region.

The statements said it is necessary for Azerbaijani citizens currently living in or visiting either Israel or Palestine to ‘follow the safety and security rules and not visit areas of mass gatherings.’

Israel has killed more nearly 40,000 people in the Gaza Strip since the Oct. 7 Hamas incursion.

Tensions escalated after Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh’s assissination in Iran’s capital Tehran, in an attack Iranian officials blamed on Israel, which has not commented directly.

Hours earlier, Israel killed Hezbollah commander Fouad Shukr in Beirut.

Iran and Hezbollah have vowed to respond.
