Mayor of Ayia Napa Christos Zannettou and Ambassador of Ukraine Ruslan Nimchynskyi, inaugurated on Wednesday in the Municipal Library of Ayia Napa a space dedicated to Ukrainian books.

According to a press release by the Municipality, the history and culture books are offered by the Embassy of Ukraine, as part of the “Bookshelf” project, which is an initiative of the First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska, for the Ukrainian citizens temporarily residing abroad after the Russian invasion of their country.

In his address, the Mayor of Ayia Napa said that it is the duty of the Municipality of Ayia Napa to support such initiatives.

He noted that Cypriots, who have experienced similar conditions due to the Turkish invasion in 1974, have a moral and humanitarian obligation to offer all kinds of support so that Ukrainians who have been away from their ancestral homes for a year now, can have in Ayia Napa, to the extent possible, a pleasant and creative stay.

The Ambassador of Ukraine expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude for the continuous support of the Municipality to the Ukrainian refugees temporarily residing in Ayia Napa.

He also said that it is the first Ukrainian library to be established in a foreign country, noting the close ties between the two countries.
