Athienou:The Department of Agriculture has submitted applications for "Athienou Bread" and "Athienou Loukoumi" to be considered by the European Commission for registration as Protected Geographical Indications.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment announced that these applications have already been favorably reviewed at the national level by the Director of the Department of Agriculture.

The favorable decision was published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Cyprus on September 25, 2026, alongside the product specifications.

The Ministry highlighted that the applications pertain to two products from Cypriot gastronomy, known for their exceptional quality and great fame. The European Commission's decision is anticipated within 2027.
