Arsos: The ongoing fire in Arsos remains uncontrolled as the firefighting teams continue to battle the blaze, according to Fire Service spokesperson Andreas Kettis. In a post on X, Kettis provided an update on the situation, stating that while the fire front in Souni Zanatzia has been secured along its perimeter, challenges persist in other areas.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Kettis highlighted that new flare-ups have been detected in Koilani, particularly in the Vounaros area near the Kouris Dam, as well as in Kyvides. Additionally, a new fire has ignited in Mandria, posing a threat to the mountainous region of Afamis. The Forest Department has responded, and additional forces from the Fire Service are being dispatched to assist in controlling these new outbreaks.
Efforts to combat the fires include the deployment of twelve aircraft conducting aerial firefighting operations, with a thirteenth aircraft overseeing the coordination of these efforts. Earlier assessments by Kettis estimated that the wildfire has already scorched approximately 100 square kilometers of land, underscoring the severity of the situation and the urgency of the containment efforts.
