Nicosia: Total registrations of motor vehicles have recorded an annual increase of 4.2% in January-October 2025.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the total registrations of motor vehicles increased by 4.2% to 44,732 in January-October 2025, up from 42,930 in the same period in 2024. The Statistical Service of Cyprus, in its report titled “Registration of Motor Vehicles,” noted that in October 2025, the total registrations reached 4,520. This reflects a 9.9% increase compared to 4,111 in October 2024, with passenger saloon cars specifically experiencing a rise of 11.7% to 3,457 from 3,096 in October 2024.
The report highlighted significant developments over the January-October 2025 period, compared to 2024. Passenger saloon car registrations increased by 4.0% to 34,782 from 33,440 in the previous year. Of these, 12,954 or 37.2% were new, and 21,828 or 62.8% were used cars. Notably, rental cars saw a substantial increase of 33.8% to 4,866.
The report also detailed changes in the types of passenger cars. The share of petrol-powered vehicles decreased to 42.5% from 49.5%, and diesel-powered cars dropped to 8.6% from 10.0%. Conversely, electric cars saw an increase from 3.8% to 4.8%, and hybrid cars rose from 36.7% to 44.1%.
The number of motor coaches and buses rose to 167 from 125, while goods conveyance vehicles grew by 6.6% to 5,142 from 4,823. Specifically, rental vehicles increased by 23.3% to 238, light goods vehicles by 6.6% to 4,111, and heavy goods vehicles by 3.1% to 594. Road tractors remained steady at 199.
A notable decrease was observed in mopeds 50cc registrations, which fell to 190 from 627. However, mechanised cycles over 50cc increased by 17.0% to 3,916 from 3,348 in the corresponding period of the previous year.
