Nicosia: The Cyprus Center for European and International Affairs at the University of Nicosia is set to host a lecture and discussion titled "Lebanon and Israel: Prospects for Peace," featuring Ambassador Frederic Hof. The event is scheduled to take place on Thursday, January 22, 2026, from 18:00 to 19:30 in the M114 Conference Room of the Millennium Building.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Ambassador Hof, a veteran diplomat and mediator, will provide insights into the ongoing efforts to achieve peace between Lebanon and Israel. Despite a ceasefire announced in November 2024, conflicts persist with Israeli airstrikes targeting Hezbollah in Lebanon and Israeli Defense Forces occupying parts of southern Lebanon. The Lebanese Armed Forces and the Government of Lebanon are working towards establishing security and disarming Hezbollah, while official diplomatic talks between Lebanon and Israel have commenced.
The lecture, chaired by Ambassador Euripides Evriviades, will include comments from Professor Andreas Theophanous, President of the Cyprus Center for European and International Affairs. Ambassador Hof, who has been involved in Track II diplomatic efforts alongside a Canadian colleague, will share findings from their ongoing project, which seeks to address the longstanding conflict and explore possibilities for peace and normalization between the two nations.
