Amalthea: Three ships with humanitarian aid continue their course to Gaza


A maritime convoy with three ships carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza, that departed yesterday from Larnaca port, continue their course on Sunday, as part of the “Amalthea” plan for a maritime corridor to deliver aid to civilians in Gaza.

As CNA learns, the three vessels Open Arms, Jennifer and Ledra Dynamics, as well as the barge ARIS continue sailing towards their destination and are expected to arrive in Gaza on Monday.

The ships departed on Saturday afternoon from the port of Larnaca, in the eastern coast of Cyprus, with the aim of delivering humanitarian aid to northern Gaza. Speaking on Saturday to CNA, Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos said the ships were transporting a total of 332 tons of humanitarian aid.

He added that the mission also includes auxiliary equipment, namely a crane that will be used to unload aid, as well as a crew to operate the crane.

He noted that in the meantime, preparations have begun for the collection of aid for the next mission.

In this context, the President of the Eu
ropean Parliament, Roberta Metsola is paying an official visit to Cyprus on 1-2 April to be briefed, among other things, on the maritime humanitarian corridor and the Amalthea initiative. Metsola arrives in Cyprus on Monday, and will have a tete-a-tete meeting with President Christodoulides later in the evening.

On Tuesday, she will visit Larnaca port, accompanied by President Christodoulides, to monitor the progress as part of the initiative of Cyprus concerning the ‘Amalthea’ plan.

Subsequently, the President of Cyprus and the President of the European Parliament will visit the Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) and will make statements to the Press.
