Allegations of Stone and Firecracker Incident in Nicosia Under Investigation

Nicosia: Authorities are investigating allegations that stones and firecrackers were thrown from the government-controlled areas of Nicosia towards the occupied areas on April 1, Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA).

According to Cyprus News Agency, Letymbiotis addressed inquiries about complaints regarding an incident on Markou Drakou Street in Nicosia. He confirmed that authorities are looking into allegations of stones and firecrackers being hurled from the government-controlled areas towards the occupied territories on April 1, 2026.

He further stated that the United Nations Peacekeeping Force has been requested to provide any evidence that could support the findings related to the incident.

'The Government condemns any actions that cause disturbance, tension, or disruption of public order,' Letymbiotis said.

Cyprus remains divided since 1974, following Turkey's invasion and subsequent occupation of the northern third of the island.
