Larnaka: President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, announced that the commencement of upgrades to Larnaka and Pafos airports marks a significant investment in enhancing Cyprus’ international presence and growth potential. The improvements aim to elevate the quality of hospitality for both citizens and visitors alike.
According to Cyprus News Agency, during a ceremony at Larnaka Airport for the second phase of the airports’ expansion, President Christodoulides expressed satisfaction with the project, noting its strategic importance. He highlighted that the upgrades will enhance the travel experience and open new avenues for tourism, trade, and economic development.
The President emphasized the collaborative nature of the project, attributing its success to a strong public-private partnership based on trust and professionalism. He noted that this partnership serves as a model for future infrastructure projects in Cyprus.
Upon completion of the upgrades, the annual passenger capacity at the two airports is expected to reach 17.4 million, which should meet the country’s needs until 2040. The President pointed out the recent steady increase in passenger traffic and projected continued growth in tourism, surpassing last year’s record of 4 million visitors.
President Christodoulides acknowledged Hermes Airports’ role in enhancing Cyprus’ connectivity and noted the interdependence between airport operations and the tourism industry. He reiterated that Cyprus’ airports serve multifaceted roles beyond tourism, contributing to economic activity, social cohesion, and investment strategies.
