Nicosia: The Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF), in partnership with the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, has unveiled a new flagship funding programme named ‘AI in Government’. This initiative is set to revolutionize the public sector in Cyprus through the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies.
According to Cyprus News Agency, this programme is a part of the Government’s major initiatives as introduced by President Nikos Christodoulides in the 2025 annual governance programme. It represents a pivotal move towards utilizing innovation for the modernization of state operations. The initiative is specifically targeted at Cypriot businesses and entities, encouraging them to develop innovative AI solutions to address distinct challenges faced by public authorities.
The first set of challenges introduced by the programme comes from the Department of Meteorology. These challenges involve the creation of an early warning system for extreme weather events and the provision of agrometeorological support for the agricultural sector. Future challenges will be announced periodically, ensuring ongoing opportunities for innovation.
