Agriculture Minister in Berlin for the World Congress on Food and Agriculture

Berlin: The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Maria Panayiotou, departed on Friday, 17 January, for Berlin, where she will participate in the International Conference of Ministers of Agriculture, which will take place in the framework of the 17th World Conference on Food and Agriculture, organised on 18 January, by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture of Germany, as part of the “Green Week”.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the conference is a leading meeting in the field of food and agriculture with the participation of around 80 agriculture Ministers, 2000 politicians, scientists and other participants from more than 80 countries. The conference has the central theme “Promoting a Sustainable Bioeconomy”.

Discussions will focus on the transition to a circular and sustainable economy, with the aim of addressing dependence on non-renewable resources, mitigating the effects of the climate crisis and enhancing food security. The aim of the conference is to accelerate the transition to a sustainable economic model through international cooperation.

Key areas of discussion include sustainable biomass production with a focus on adapted local solutions, sustainable use of biomass, promoting innovation and knowledge exchange, and creating an equitable framework for further development of the bioeconomy.

In the framework of this conference, the Minister will participate in the International Conference of Ministers of Agriculture, where strategies for strengthening the sustainable bioeconomy will be discussed and a Joint Statement entitled “Farming a Sustainable Bioeconomy” is expected to be adopted. The Minister returns to Cyprus on Sunday afternoon, 19 January.
