Nicosia: The Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth is making substantial investments in school buildings, with works exceeding £147 million this year concerning extensions, improvements, and renovations of school facilities across Cyprus, according to a written statement issued on Sunday by the Minister of Education, Sport and Youth, Athena Michaelidou.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Minister noted that the air conditioning installation program is proceeding according to schedule, gradually covering all schools. Currently, 45% of schools nationwide are equipped with functioning air conditioning, with the exception of the Famagusta district, where the project will be fully completed within the year.
Regarding schools’ staffing, Michaelidou stated that the new school year begins without issues affecting the smooth operation of schools. She clarified that where needs arise, the Ministry intervenes immediately in a decentralized manner through the district offices, ensuring that every school operates at full capacity.
On teacher training, she emphasized that it remains a high priority so that innovations can be properly supported. She noted that last week, 6,000 primary education teachers participated in the customary two-day training sessions in each district, gaining valuable tools for their classroom work.
