Tbilisi: The Cyprus Women’s National Team defeated Georgia 2-1 in Tbilisi on Tuesday in the final match of the Nations League, finishing second in Group 2 of League C. The team will now compete in a play-off for promotion to League B.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the results of the six matches give the Cyprus Women’s National Team the right to continue in the play-offs in October and compete for promotion to the second division.
The draw for the play-offs will take place next Friday. Cyprus will be drawn against one of the two best teams finishing in third place in the Second Division groups. The winners of the play-off matches will also secure promotion or remain in the Second Division.
In yesterday’s away win, Cyprus scored first with Steffi Hardy in the 27th minute, while in the 49th minute, Andri Violari scored the second goal after a pass from Irene Michael, with Maiko Bebia of Georgia scoring in the 54th minute with a direct free kick.
In the other match of the group, Andorra and Malta drew 0-0.
