Nicosia: A total of 14 cases of West Nile virus infection have been recorded in Cyprus as of September 17, 2026, according to information provided to the Cyprus News Agency by the Medical and Public Health Services of the Ministry of Health.

According to Cyprus News Agency, of the 14 cases, nine have been confirmed and five are probable. Thirteen of the cases are locally acquired, while one is imported. To date, one patient has died. The deceased patient had a serious medical history and underlying health conditions.

The activity of acute respiratory infections in the community, as recorded through the Sentinel Surveillance Network in Primary Health Care, remains at low levels, with 42 cases per 1,000 visits.

During the period September 7-13, 2026, data reported by public and private hospitals indicated five hospitalizations due to influenza, no hospitalizations due to RSV, and six hospitalizations due to SARS-CoV-2.

During the previous week, from August 31 to September 6, 2026, two hospitalizations due to influenza A and four due to SARS-CoV-2 were recorded. No admissions to an intensive care unit were reported during either of the two weeks.
